1. Wirehaired Vizsla
Known for their dense wiry double coats wirehaired Vizslas go after both water and land prey. Typically they can grow to an inch in length.
If not groomed properly the hair of wirehaired vizslas grows straight and long.
The wirehaired Vizsla may be rusty-gold in general or golden red sandy or a mix of the three.
The Vizslas coat is sleek rather than wiry so the breed is often confused with the Vizsla which has a sleek coat. Despite their resemblances the Wirehaired Vizsla and Vizsla are two distinct breeds with distinct skin characteristics.
In height and weight the Wirehaired Vizsla can reach 25 inches (64 cm) and 66 pounds (30 kg). They are the smallest dogs on our list. Wirehaired Vizslas are medium-sized gun dogs that require vigorous exercise. Their owners love being around them especially when hiking bicycling or jogging. Be sure to keep this pup busy!
2. German Wirehaired Pointer
A medium-sized gun dog the German Wirehaired Pointer can grow as long as 26 inches (67 cm) tall and weigh as much as 70 pounds (32 kg). German Wirehaired Pointers are easy to train and extremely loyal which makes them ideal family dogs or hunting dogs.
There is a close relationship between the German Wire-haired Pointer and the German Short-haired Pointer. Although the Wirehaired Pointer has a rough wiry coat that protects against bad weather and harsh environments the breed has a poor coat. Fur grows up to two inches long in this breed. The German Wirehaired Pointer is a shorthaired pointer with a white and liver patterned coat that can be spotted roan or ticked.
Another breed used to create German Wirehaired Pointers is the Wirehaired Point Griffon which has a coat quite similar to that of the German Wirehaired Pointer. As far as exercise needs and temperament are concerned both are similar.
3. Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer

It is a medium-sized dog of moderate strength and known as the Slovakian Rough-haired Pointer which is not as common as other large wirehaired dogs. Their coats are harsh wiry and somewhat long giving the Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer a shaggy appearance. Grey is the dominant color of the Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer most of the time. Their bodies can also be marked with white.
The Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer is generally 27 inches tall (68 cm). The wirehaired kind will weigh up to 77 pounds (35 kg) making it one of the larger medium-sized dogs. Like the German Wirehaired Pointer the Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer is also similar in size and coat.
A Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer has an outgoing personality a high level of energy and lots of energy. Their physical activity requirements are high and they enjoy running in large open spaces.
4. Irish Wolfhound
A wirehaired dog the Irish Wolfhound stands at 32 inches (81 cm) at its minimum height and weighs 120 pounds (54 kg) at its maximum weight. It is also known that the Irish Wolfhound is one of the tallest dog breeds.

Wirehaired Ibizan Hounds are rare and ancient dogs originating from Egypt and named after the Spanish island of Ibiza. Ibizan Hounds and Wirehaired Ibizan Hounds are very similar breeds. Wirehairs have a dense rough coat that hangs shaggy and may grow long. Various colors of the Wirehaired Ibizan Hound are available including white red and fawn.
Despite its long and slim body the Wirehaired Ibizan Hound can grow up to 28 inches (71 cm) tall and weigh up to 50 pounds (23 kgs).
The dogs need a lot of activity and are very energetic. It has been reported that wirehaired Ibizan Hounds can jump five to six feet in the air. Playtime long walks chases and jogging are all favorites of Wirehaired Ibizan Hounds.
8. Berger Picard
The Berger Picard is a great introduction.
Known for their long shaggy hair which can reach a length of between 3 and 4 inches the Berger Picard is a large lean dog. 9. Pudelpointer
Pudelpointers are friendly and willing to please medium-sized gun dogs. The size and temperament of these breeds are similar to those of Poodles and Pointers. Pudelpointers can grow up to 26 inches tall (66 cm) and weigh as much as 70 pounds (32 kg).
Breeds of the Wirehaired Pointer have a coat that ranges from light brown to black with occasional white markings. These dogs have hair that is one to two inches in length. Alternatively if you are looking for a dog that sheds less the Pudelpointer is also available in a smooth and short-haired variety.
