Is Eukanuba Dog Food Being Discontinued

Is Eukanuba Dog Food Being Discontinued?

Last Updated: August 18, 2023

In this article you will know the answer to the query “Is Eukanuba Dog Food Being Discontinued?“.

Paul Iams founded Eukanuba in 1969 as a premium pet nutrition company. Pronounced You-Ka-Noo-Bah (in case you were wondering) it is a premium brand of pet food.

Often viewed as top-notch the brand aims to improve our dogs’ lives by innovating dog food formulas that offer high-quality and performance nutrition to help them live healthier and more active lives.

Is Eukanuba Dog Food Being Discontinued

What types of dog food do they make?

You can choose different types of dog food according to your companions age breed type and performance area from the pet nutrition brand.

Dog food varieties include dry food wet food and tasty treats all tailored to your furry friends life stage (puppy adult or senior) to ensure they are properly nourished.

Eukanubas popular products include the Premium Performance Sprint 21/13 (a catchy name indeed) which is formulated for athletes to nutritionally prepare them for short bursts of intense exercise.

With 21% protein and 13% fat this should help your pet athletes prepare for the dog Olympics in no time!

Additionally there are a variety of other options and benefits to choosing from as well!

Have there been any recalls on Eukanuba foods in the past 5 or 10 years?

It turns out that Proctor & Gamble its previous manufacturer has indeed recalled just 1 product in the last 10 years back in August of 2013.

Previously there were only two product recalls for the dog food brand in 2010 and 2007. Our understanding is that Eukanuba has only had three product recalls to date so we hope their current manufacturers have found a way to prevent contaminations.

What were the recalls for?

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that compromises the digestive tract typically originating from raw fecal-contaminated foods such as meat eggs fruits and even vegetables (yikes!).

In this case the FDA reported a potential Salmonella case on August 14 2013 and recalled 20 different kinds of Eukanuba dry dog food. Humans as well as our furry friends might become infected by these nasty foes (which none of us wants).

Who owns Eukanuba and when was it last sold (or changed hands)

Eukanubas first owner and founder were Paul Iams (no surprise there).

Since 1969 Eukanuba has established itself as a leading pet food company that was eventually sold to Proctor & Gamble in 1999.

Mars boldly acquired Proctor & Gambles pet and food brands including Eukanuba and a few other pet brands under its own name in 2014.

Mars Incorporated and Spectrum Brands (Europe only) are the companies that currently own Eukanuba.

Which established brands of dog food have never had a recall?

You might be wondering at this point: “What the heck is a recall? Is it similar to fetch in the park?” (Hint: its nothing like that).

Basically a recall occurs when a product (pet food) manufacturer requests to pull the product from sale outlets due to safety concerns or defects that could harm consumers.

Research for the best quality pet food and stay informed of reports from credible sources such as the FDA and ensure the dog food you purchased is safe or has been recalled to avoid unwanted trips to the vet and maintain a happy and healthy belly.

If you and your tail-wagging buddy have been scouring the web for dog food brands that never had recalls (like ever) then you are in for quite the treat!

We have compiled a list of the top 5 brands for each type of dog food so here they are:

How should I transition my dog from one dog food to another?

A smooth transition to something new such as a new dog food brand is akin to moving to a new city. Your dogs gastrointestinal beast could be enraged by a sudden change in food (which neither of us would want would we? ) leading to vomiting and diarrhea (thank you next).

What is the proper way to make a successful dog food shift? We have got you covered! This question can be answered by gradually changing your dogs old diet to a new one. The new dog food is slowly added while the old dog food remains the majority. Depending on how your dog reacts to the diet change the adjustment process typically takes seven to ten days at the very least. In order for you to have a better understanding of how the proportions should be during the adjustment period we have simplified it as follows:

  • 25 percent new and 75 percent old diet on day one.
  • 50 percent new and 50 percent old diet on day three.
  • 75 percent new and 25 percent old diet on day five.
  • 100% completion of the new diet shift on day seven.

There are different responses from different dogs. It may take longer for some and it may take shorter for others as factors such as sensitive bellies or allergies to certain ingredients may affect the adjustment period. When in doubt about your pups diet always consult with your veterinarian. Put the best foot forward for your furry pals health and wellness.

What is the best place online (apart from Amazon) to buy dog food?

Its no secret that Amazon sells almost anything you could think of including dog treats dog beds dog shoes and anything else your pet may desire (except jet packs) but is there another place you can get the same dog food supply? Indeed!

In addition to Amazon you can order and purchase dog food on websites like Chewy and PetFlow for a zillion dog foods and treats to choose from!

Conclusion

While Eunakuba has offered the same formulated dog food for the past 52 years it is always a pleasure to know that there are other options that offer similar product content and quality. As the saying goes: “Donot see the world through a keyhole not realizing you’re standing in front of a door you can open.”

We hope the beholder of our erudite gifts will be able to help you your faithful companion and even others to ensure dogs of all shapes sizes and colors can live a healthy and p-awesome life without worrying about the quality and safety of dog food.
