What does big mean to me? Well the dogs on my list range from a 24-inch Standard Poodle to a 32 inch tall and 150 pound Irish Wolfhound with a wide variety of breeds in between.
In terms of long hair I have chosen Standard Poodles to Komondors – which are also known as mop dogs!

First the pros.

- It will be necessary to groom them frequently.
- Cleaning and drying them takes much longer!

1. White Swiss Shepherd
This breed of dog originated in Switzerland and shares the same origins as the German Shepherd.
This dog is a favorite of owners who prefer medium-sized well-built and elegant dogs because of its snow-white fur.
Their size is usually between 24 and 26 inches and they are very medium in weight.
Smart playful energetic and attentive they are known for these attributes. They are the perfect watchdog for families who want a sweet but a protective dog for their home.
2. Kuvasz
Kuvasz dogs are known for being loyal and fearless animals. The breed has white fur and is known as the guardian breed of royalty in Hungary.
The average adult weighs between 100 and 115 pounds and grows to more than 30 inches. They are elegant work dogs due to their large build. These majestic creatures are smart and intelligent.
As gentle and protective dogs at the same time they are great for families with children. Petting and going crazy over them is impossible because of their beautiful appearance.
My humble opinion is that the Kuvasz is one of the most beautiful dog breeds out there. There is not a single negative angle about this breed. Always looking its best.
3. Standard Poodle
Probably the most well-known Poodles are those of the wealthy. Poodles are often depicted as the breed of aristocrats and royalty in cartoons movies and other forms of pop culture.
This is very fitting since they really do look like royalty dogs with their unique coats. If a poodle wore a crown that said “Princess” it wouldnot be surprising. Certainly adorable.
It is known that they are highly intelligent and easily trained. They can reach a height of about a foot and weigh between 40 and 70 pounds depending on the gender. Poodles have a puffy appearance that makes them fun for owners to style however they wish. Poodles are active and energetic dogs who require a lot of attention from their owners. These dogs are definitely classics.
4. The great Pyrenees
Dogs of the Great Pyrenees breed are large and white and can live up to 12 years of age. These dogs can weigh more than 100 pounds and stand 32 inches tall.
Dogs of this breed were bred in order to prevent wolves from attacking sheep farms. Dogs of the Great Pyrenees are also known to be intelligent and mellow.
Due to their large size and calm demeanor they are utterly adorable and utterly irresistible. As a result they have earned the nickname “the big dog of the mountains.”
For a dog of great strength and endurance this is an apt nickname. If you’re looking for a gentle giant for your home they can make a great companion.
5. Siberian Husky
The Siberian Husky became popular due to its similar appearance to wolves making it one of the most popular dog breeds in the world.

Siberian Huskies bred originally to pull sleds over icy paths are both highly energetic and resistant to the cold due to their thick fur. They love physical activity and often need a lot of exercises every day.
When given the right amount of attention they are easily trained and love human companionship. Any sane dog lover would agree that the Siberian Husky ranks as one of the coolest-looking dogs out there.
6. Komondor
Komondors are known for their long straight fur coat. It is this characteristic that proves most challenging for owners.
Komondors fur resembles actual chords and lengthens with time. To keep the Komondors coat neat and clean the owner must perform a lot of maintenance and upkeep.
Additionally they can weigh just under 100 pounds making them large dogs. Breeds of this type are known to be clingy and very loyal to their human companions.
Though owners would not mind a little cling from a breed as elegant as the Komondor.

7. Irish Wolfhound
Originally from Ireland the Irish Wolfhound is a hound dog breed. Hunting games and defending against wolves were its main purposes.
Wolfhounds are known for their grey coats but you may also see White-coated dogs.
In addition to white they can also have black brindle or red coats.
Long hair covers their coats which have an unsightly appearance.
In my opinion it makes an Irish Wolfhound look a bit bewildered…
As a result of their size and hunting abilities they are often shown in the literature. Their size is between 32″ and 155 lbs.
The Irish Wolfhound breed is known for its strength and speed. Theres no way this little author wants to be chased down by one.
Owners who like to hunt or spend a lot of time outdoors will find it perfect for them.
8. Borzoi
Additionally known as a dog for the rich and royalty the Borzoi is a proud and dignified breed that is both elegant and useful at the same time.
There are not many pure white Borzois around- they are more commonly found with white coats with dark patches.
There are two other coat colors that Borzois have: Brindle and Cream.
Occasionally they have a flat or slightly curly coat.
As hunters the Borzoi rely on their eyesight to track and catch a game. Their athleticism makes them a very energetic breed.
Thus the Borzoi is both elegant and functional. A lot of training is required in the early stages of owning a Borzoi because of their tendency to be independent.
No matter what kind of owner you are owning a Borzoi will be an infinitely fun experience.
9. Maremma Sheepdog
Known for its ability to guard livestock in the Maremma region of central Italy the Maremma sheepdog is a breed of dog.

Maremma sheepdogs although courageous are considered friendly and well-balanced when it comes to temperament.

10. Briard
Briards are one of the shaggiest breeds of dogs and they are intelligent and sociable. The average height is 22-27 inches and the weight ranges from 70-100 pounds.
Since they are known to be extremely affectionate to people around them they make wonderful family pets.
Breeds like the Briard are very smart and easy to train. Briards may need a little attention but with a dog as adorable and affectionate as a Briard that should not be a problem.
11. Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog
Probably the most complicated breed name out there is the Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog. The Romanian dog breeds were used as livestock guardians in you guessed it Romania.
Long hair requires frequent grooming to keep them looking their best. People consider them loyal smart and very protective.
The pets like to be around people all the time and want constant care and attention. As adorable as that dog is it isnot hard to give it to him.

Slovensky Cuvacs are descendants of Arctic wolves a very cool history. Slovensky Cuvacs is another livestock guard dog breed with a solid build and constitution.
Typically they grow to about 25-28 inches long and weigh around 100 pounds. In the harsh conditions of the Slovakian Mountains they can survive thanks to their thick white coat of hair.
